Completion of this course has reinforced the importance of fostering the effective use of ideas and information to ensure access to resources and information in a variety of formats.  The development of policy manual provides a foundation for flexible and open access for the library media center and its services, underlines the importance of complying with  legal and ethical codes of the profession, focuses on the scheduling options for different needs by developing flexible scheduling, and officially documents the values of privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property, and intellectual freedom.  It also demonstrates a focus on establishing and maintaining a positive educational climate in the media center.  Relationships are identified among facilities, programs, and environment that impact student learning thereby allowing for the utilization of collaborative techniques to create and foster a positive educational climate via a technology-rich media center.

 

3.3 Collaboration Leadership

This course reinforces the role of the media specialist as an educational leader in the school.  It is critical that the media program take into consideration current educational trends and important issues.  Collaboration with other educational professionals and professional associations. It is also key that the media offerings enhance school improvement efforts and that we put into practice the materials learned by our counterparts and discussed in professional journals.

As a result of this course, I have researched and put into practice the roadmap required by the successful management and daily operation of a successful media center.  All of the above stated standards have been met in the successful completion of this course.  The course enhanced my professional growth as I focused on the management skills necessary to create policy, determine human resource needs, and overall direction of the media center.  The resulting Policy Handbook demonstrates the policies and procedures that are key to successful operation of a school media center.
